Information in the app

This section will explain account information, trip records and privacy choices for the signup service. Final wording will be added after the account service is defined.

With your permission, LogMetric uses precise location, times and speed to record routes. Motion signals help detect when driving starts and stops. Recording can continue in the background while your screen is locked.

Local diagnostics help investigate recording problems and can include raw location and motion samples outside recorded trips. They stay on your device unless you choose to share them with us.

Apple services and sharing

Apple receives location and technical information needed to display maps and look up place names. Its privacy terms apply to those services.

TestFlight provides crash and usage information, plus feedback and screenshots you submit. We use these to improve the app under Apple's terms, without sending them to Resend or enrolling you in marketing.

Device backups may include app data. Exported reports go to the people or services you choose.

Optional app usage analytics

Usage analytics is off by default. If you enable it during setup or under Settings → Preferences → Usage analytics, the iOS app sends a small set of usage events to PostHog in the United States. Choosing not to share does not change the app’s features. This is separate from location and motion access used to record trips.

We count foreground app opens, completed setup, saved trips, manual classification changes, generated reports and newly added odometer readings. These events can include whether automatic recording was enabled at setup, whether a trip was automatically recorded, manually recorded or manually entered, the new business, personal or unclassified classification, and whether a report was PDF or CSV. A generated report event does not tell us whether you finished saving or sharing it.

Events include their time, random event, installation and session identifiers, app version and build, iOS version, device model and analytics SDK version. The random installation identifier helps us measure repeat usage. It is not linked to an account, advertising identifier, website activity or another device. PostHog also receives requests for its project configuration after you opt in. Our project is configured to discard IP addresses and disable location enrichment; network requests necessarily use your IP address to reach the service.

We do not send trip coordinates, routes, addresses, trip dates or distances, vehicle names or registrations, odometer values, notes, tags, report contents or financial amounts to PostHog. Automatic screen and tap capture, session recording, personal profiles and PostHog crash uploads are disabled. Local recording diagnostics are separate and remain on your device unless you share them.

Turning Usage analytics off stops collection, cancels pending requests and discards unsent events on the device. A request already received by PostHog cannot be recalled, and turning the toggle off does not delete previously received events. If you enable it again, the app starts with a new random analytics identifier and does not upload activity from when it was off.

Website and email

If you contact us, we use your email address, message and attachments to respond. When you join the waitlist, we store your first and last name, email address, platform choices, optional news preference and submission date in Resend in the United States. We use these to notify you about availability for your chosen platforms. Joining does not create an app account. Product news and offers are optional and unchecked by default.

We plan to measure email opens using small tracking images and clicks using tracking links. Events can include time, IP address and device or email-client details. Automated activity can affect these counts. This helps us understand email engagement.

Support enquiries do not subscribe you to marketing. Marketing emails will include an unsubscribe link.

Cloudflare Pages hosts this website. Cloudflare processes technical information, including IP addresses, browser details and page requests, to deliver and protect the site. The waitlist uses Cloudflare Turnstile to check for automated submissions; we send its verification token and your IP address to Cloudflare for this check.

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand website usage and improve page performance. Reports include visits, page views, referring sites, country-level location, browser and device types, and page-load measurements. The website has no advertising.

Cloudflare Web Analytics does not use cookies or browser storage to collect usage metrics, and does not fingerprint visitors or track them across websites. This is separate from the technical information Cloudflare processes to host and secure the site.

We also use PostHog to count page views, waitlist link clicks, form starts, and successful or failed waitlist submissions. We send page paths, referring website origins, and browser and device information. We do not send your name, email address, form answers, URL query strings or fragments. Session recording and personal profiles are disabled.

PostHog uses cookieless measurement with no cookies or browser storage. It processes IP addresses and browser information to generate a daily, website-specific identifier, then removes the IP address before analytics processing. This cannot reliably recognise returning visitors across days or devices. Website analytics is kept in a separate project from app analytics.

How long information is kept

Trip records stay until you delete them. Deleting a trip removes its route and linked diagnostics, but does not remove existing backups or shared copies.

Diagnostics are trimmed when new entries arrive, using a seven-day window relative to the newest entry and storage limits. Older entries can remain when no new diagnostics are saved.

We keep support and email records as needed to handle enquiries, manage subscriptions, honour preferences or meet legal obligations, then delete or de-identify them. Unsubscribe records may remain to prevent unwanted emails. Providers and backups can have separate retention periods.

Your choices

Turn off automatic tracking in LogMetric, or change location, motion and notification permissions in iOS Settings. Automatic recording needs background location and motion access. Stop any manual recording to stop its location use. You can still enter trips manually and review existing records without sensor access.

Edit, export or delete trip records in the app. Changing permissions does not erase existing records, and we cannot remotely access or delete them.
